China has grown into the world’s manufacturing hub thanks to the successful efforts of original equipment manufacturers, or OEMs, producing goods in China for international brands. However, there is now a shift taking place. The OEM business can be very competitive, and the prices are dropping. China is now using the technology they used to use for Western brands, to produce their own brands. This way the production, distribution, design, innovation, communication and marketing is no longer spread out over different countries, but it all takes place in China.
And it seems to be working. Chinese (global) brands, mostly in the electronics industry, are definitely taking over the world and according to Daphne it will not be limited to electronics. To be continued…
For those interested, but who have no clue… Here is a short introduction into OEM and ODM’s. Now listen close, because they are quite similar.
An OEM stands for Original equipment manufacturer. This company is responsible for designing and building a product according to its own specifications, and then selling the product to another company or firm, which is responsible for its distribution.
An ODM is an Original design manufacturer is responsible for designing and building a product as per another company’s specifications

Remembering that the telephone is not only an instrument for communications but is also a sales and marketing medium, the definition of telemarketing becomes important, especially when you are learning to perform in a professional manner.
It is a curious but factual comment that how you sound and what you say are what create your telephone personality. If you don’t sound good or you handle yourself poorly over the telephone the process stops dead in its sales and marketing tracks.
We have all had the experience of talking to customers and prospects on the telephone long before we have met them in person and are surprised that they look different than they sound. Respondents to our telephone sales calls tend to “manufacture” images of the inside sales rep (ISR) depending on how they sound. Needless to say, the reverse is true. Confidences can be shaken or intense risks perceived by the caller (customer/prospect) or if
the customer service/service representative or sales rep doesn’t sound quite right or have a good phone personality. Equally important is the company is impacted by the professionalism (or lack of it) that is demonstrated in any one call.
Question: “My husband and I would like to purchase a townhouse in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood of Manhattan that we can pick up at a discounted price at is part of a portfolio that our business partners are buying. It needs renovations. (3500 sft single family brownstone) We have two boutique hotels and have been in business roughly a year. Obviously the hotel business is going very good in NYC and our part of the profits are approx. $500k. We have no loans or any other debt and the purchase price will be about 1.8 mil renovations. What would be a good lender that you can recommend for our scenario?”

The Energy Independence Implications of the Auto Bailout Proposal (Part 2) – Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming – 2008-12-09 – (Part 1 Not Currently Available.) As Congress considers a multi-billion dollar program of loans to America’s auto industry, many measures of success or failure exist for the industry and the government’s attempts to help the automakers. Chief among those measures of success is how effectively America’s auto industry, and the industry as a whole, is transformed to build cars for the future that reduce our dependence on oil. Will the auto industry meet the fuel economy rules passed by Congress and signed into law nearly a year ago, which could revitalize the industry? Should American taxpayers expect even higher fuel economy performance in return for their investment of additional billions in loans? Do the auto companies’ plans impair their ability to meet the current fuel economy regime? A panel of auto industry and fuel economy experts will discuss these issues and other energy implications of the automotive industry loan program at a hearing tomorrow before Chairman Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) and the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. Chairman Markey authored the House language that became the current fuel economy standards of at least 35 mile per gallon by 2020. WITNESS LIST: Ms. Joan Claybrook, President, Public Citizen; Mr. Reuben Munger, Chairman and Co-founder, Bright Automotive; Dr. Peter Morici, Professor of International Business, Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland; Mr. Geoff Wardle, Director of Advanced Mobility Research, Art Center College of Design; Mr. Richard Curless, Chief Technical Officer, MAG Industrial Automation Systems. The Bingham Canyon Mine, also known as the Kennecott Copper Mine, is an open-pit mining operation extracting a large porphyry copper deposit southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, in the Oquirrh Mountains. The mine is owned by Rio Tinto Group, an international mining and exploration company headquartered in the United Kingdom. The copper operations at Bingham Canyon Mine are managed through Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation which operates the mine, a concentrator plant, a smelter, and a refinery. The mine has been in production since 1906, and has resulted in the creation of a pit over 0.6 miles (0.97 km) deep, 2.5 miles (4 km) wide, and covering 1,900 acres (770 ha). It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 under the name Bingham Canyon Open Pit Copper Mine. The mine experienced a massive landslide in April of 2013 and a smaller slide in September of 2013.
Udachnaya was discovered on June 15, 1955, just two days after the discovery of the diamond pipe Mir by Soviet geologist Vladimir Shchukin and his team. It is more than 600 metres (1,970 ft) deep, making it the third deepest open-pit mine in the world (after Bingham Canyon Mine and Chuquicamata).
The nearby settlement of Udachny is named for the deposit.
As of 2010, Udachnaya pipe is controlled by Russian diamond company Alrosa, which planned to halt open-pit mining in favor of underground mining in 2010.
The mine has estimated reserves of 225.8 million carats of diamonds and an annual production capacity of 10.4 million carats
Chuquicamata, or “Chuqui” as it is more familiarly known, is by excavated volume the biggest open pit copper mine in the world, located in the north of Chile, just outside of Calama, 215 km northeast of Antofagasta and 1,240 km north of the capital, Santiago. The mine is owned and operated by Codelco, a Chilean state enterprise, since the Chilean nationalization of copper in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Its depth of 850 metres (2,790 ft) makes it the second deepest open-pit mine in the world (after Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah, USA).
The Diavik Diamond Mine is a diamond mine in the North Slave Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada, about 300 kilometres (190 mi) north of Yellowknife. It has become an important part of the regional economy, employing 700, grossing C$100 million in sales, and producing approximately 7.5 million carats (1,500 kg (3,300 lb)) of diamonds annually. The area was surveyed in 1992 and construction began in 2001, with production commencing in January 2003. It is connected by an ice road and Diavik Airport with a 5,235 ft (1,596 m) gravel runway regularly accommodating Boeing 737 jet aircraft.
The Grasberg Mine is the largest gold mine and the third largest copper mine in the world. It is located in the province of Papua in Indonesia near Puncak Jaya, the highest mountain in Papua, and it has 19,500 employees. It is majority owned through a subsidiary by Freeport-McMoRan, which owns 90.64% of PT Freeport Indonesia, the principal operating subsidiary in Indonesia, including 9.36% owned through its wholly owned subsidiary, PT Indocopper Investama. The Government of Indonesia owns the remaining 9.36% of PT Freeport Indonesia. FCX operates under an agreement with the Government of Indonesia, which allows Freeport to conduct exploration, mining and production activities in a 24,700-acre area (Block A). It also conducts exploration activities in an approximate 500,000-acre area (Block B). All of Freeport’s proven and probable mineral reserves and current mining operations are located in Block A. The 2006 production was 610,800 tonnes of copper; 58,474,392 grams of gold; and 174,458,971 grams of silver.

SUMMARY: This video shows the delicate procedure in which a 155-feet long, 30-inch diameter steel sewer casing pipe was successfully placed in a trench cut across the Geronimo Creek. The lowering of the pipe begins half way through the 90-second video. The trench was excavated between two dams, the water between them having been pumped away to expose the creek’s bottom. Water flowing through the creek was pumped through a 24-inch flexible pipe around the two dams. A standard sewer pipe will be installed through the steel casing pipe.
BACKGROUND: The successful placement of this pipe is good news for the city of Seguin, Texas. The city has experienced a series of major problems in its attempt to extend sewer service to the Oak Village North subdivision. Several years ago the city permitted its contractor to destroy a significant number of trees when the sewer line was installed adjacent to the Geronimo Creek at the Seguin Outdoor Learning Center on US 90. The contractor was faulted for its failure to provide portable toilets for its workers, at least one of whom lived in the woods during the project. The next phase of the project began when a new contractor installed a manhole directly adjacent to the creek on the north side of US 90. Subsequent floods washed out much of the soil around the upper section of the manhole’s concrete structure, causing a defect that has yet to be properly repaired. This contractor ran into much more serious trouble when the foreman reported they had inadvertently formed a large void under the Union Pacific railroad track while boring under the track. The void was at least partially filled with 100 cubic yards of grout, which the foreman said was insufficient to fill the entire void. Shortly before Thanksgiving of 2011, the project passed under the IH-10 bridge over the Geronimo Creek and reached the point where the pipe would cross the creek. The engineering plan called for the pipe to be installed in a hole bored 5 feet under the bottom of the creek. However, the foreman reported that the pipe had arrived at the creek some 2 feet higher than expected and that he was concerned the pipe would penetrate the side of the creek instead of being installed 5 feet under the creek bottom. His concern became reality when the pipe pierced through the east bank of the creek. Water entered the pipe, flooded the boring trench and made it difficult to properly weld the sections of pipe to one another. The project came to a halt when the pipe was bent during an effort to complete the creek crossing. Seguin eventually filed suit against the contractor and its bonding company. In January 2013, a new contractor built temporary dams across the creek, pumped the creek water around the open section between the two dams, pumped the water from between the two dams, removed the defective pipe (which was lying on the creek bottom) and excavated a trench across the creek. A pre-welded 155-feet long, 30-inch diameter steel carrier pipe was successfully placed on a bed of gravel in the trench the evening of January 23, 2013, during a well coordinated operation by excavator operators whose respective machines on opposite sides of the creek lifted and then lowered the pipe by means of sturdy straps. The pipe was covered with a concrete cap the next day. Assuming this crossing performs as designed, the sewer pipes now being installed in the subdivision will be connected to the pipe that crossed the creek sometime during the next few months. Hopefully, the excavated banks of the creek will not experience severe erosion during the next rise and the vegetation and trees that once covered this major excavation project will eventually return.
