Weather News – Round two of heavy rain, risk for accumulating snow

Wednesday, April 5, 2017, 4:45 PM – Yet another moisture laden low is set to push into southern Ontario and southeastern Québec starting Wednesday night and impact the region through Friday with significant rainfall and some accumulating snow.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for most of southern Ontario, with 30 to 50 mm expected into Thursday. With this comes the risk of localized flooding as “the ground, already near saturation, has little ability to absorb further rainfall,” according to Environment Canada.

Meanwhile, snowfall warnings have been issued for Algonquin and Burk’s Falls, with 15 to 25 cm possible.

Here’s a breakdown of the system based on timing:

En route northeastward from Texas and Oklahoma, the low will push into the Great Lakes Basin through Wednesday afternoon. As it does, a cold front associated with the low will trigger a line of strong to severe thunderstorms across parts of the Midwest all the way through to the southeastern U.S

Construction Videos – Terex AWP “The Genie™ Story” Brand Film

Terex AWP

Spin Creative helped the people who work on Terex AWP’s Genie® Brand tell their story in a way that highlights key brand characteristics and the unique passion and spirit that pervades their culture.

After careful planning, production began with Team Member interviews to discover the essence of the story. We carefully wove the story together to create a unified voice for the piece. Then, with the subject matter of the story identified, we completed the rest of production equipping crews with the Arri Alexa or Canon 5D camera packages, going into manufacturing plants and other facilities to film Team Members in action. As the Genie Story was coming to life on screen, we made the decision to add extra days to the shoot schedule to be sure nothing was missed.

The brand film has been enthusiastically embraced by Terex AWP Customers, Management and Team Members.

Construction Videos – 1999 Crane Carrier Company Integrated Rear Loader (CCC IRL)

Heavy Construction Photos

It’s been a long time coming for this video. For several years I’ve known that White’s Sanitation owns 3 of these beasts, and I’ve been wanting to make my way out to this beautiful part of Utah to see them for quite some time. A few months back I had to be in Colorado, and on my way I passed by their routes and I was extremely happy to find they still ran these! A good chunk of the route was still full, however to my disappointment, the truck was parked and nobody was around. I got a couple pictures of it and headed to nearby towns to see what else was to be found (stay tuned for that). After filming for a little over an hour just up the road in the nearby town, I came back to check on the IRL only to find it gone and the rest of the towns route finished.

Fast forward to this week, Alex and I were talking and the idea of making a trip out here was brought up and went from “I’d like to go to Utah” to “Lets go to Utah” pretty quickly, and so we did just that. Luck being on our side, very shortly after getting to the town in which I knew an IRL ran in, the truck comes around the bend in the highway way up ahead of us to get the first stop in town. The crew were extremely friendly and made a fun experience that much better, so a huge thanks goes out to them.

I also did something a little different with this video. Usually I choose my favorite clips and make a nice little video of just the better clips, but this time I decided not to. With this truck I just went ahead and added every single clip I took into this video since I knew many of you would love to see much more than a 10 minute video. Also made sure to get a good few driving shots to show off how mean this thing looks rollin’ down the road!

Anyway, enjoy what is probably my favorite rear load video I’ve made thus far, and arguably one of the coolest trucks I’ve ever had the privilege to share with you.

Construction Videos – 4250-W Bucyrus-Erie dragline. The Largest Walking Dragline Excavator in The World.

Heavy Construction Photos

The Big Muskie was a model 4250-W Bucyrus-Erie dragline (the only one ever built). With a 220-cubic-yard (170 m3) bucket, it was the largest single-bucket digging machine ever created and one of the world’s largest mobile earth-moving machines. It cost $25 million in 1969, the equivalent of $161 million today adjusted for inflation.

Big Muskie was powered by electricity supplied at 13,800 volts via a trailing cable, which had its own transporter/coiling units to move it. The electricity powered the main drives, eighteen 1,000 horsepower (750 kW) and ten 625 horsepower (466 kW) DC electric motors.
Once it had stripped all the overburden in one area of the pit, it could move itself short distances (usually less than a mile) to another pre-prepared digging position using massive hydraulic walker feet, although due to its 13,500 ton weight it traveled very slowly (1.76 inches per second (4.5 cm/s), roughly 0.1 mph) and required a carefully graded travelway with a roadbed of heavy wooden beams to avoid sinking into the soil and tipping over or getting stuck.
During its 22 years of service, Big Muskie removed more than 608,000,000 cubic yards (465,000,000 m3) of overburden, twice the amount of earth moved during the construction of the Panama Canal, uncovering over 20,000,000 tonnes (22,000,000 short tons) of Ohio brown coal.
